Session Description: Many of today's children can struggle with the social and emotional skills necessary to create and maintain relationships. While many schools are implementing Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, these often are not implemented in extra-curricular systems or activities. This presentation will demonstrate techniques on how to model and teach SEL skills for today's students through the gamification of lessons, and how to process those results to enhance learning. We will demonstrate several games in this session and workshop how to adapt games to the specific needs of today's children.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify the skills inherent in social-emotional learning and talking about how they manifest in interpersonal behavior.
Upon completion, participants will be able to enact 10-20 games designed to develop social-emotional learning skills like perspective taking, leadership, prosocial communication, and teamwork.
Upon completion, participants will develop the skills necessary to identify positive behaviors that emerge through the games and then process those behaviors with the students to enhance learning and behavior change.
