The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Division of Rehabilitative Programs (DRP), Office of Correctional Education (OCE) in partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) Golden State Warriors (“GS Warriors”), partnered to provide a professional basketball coaching and skills development training program to improve the physical health, mental health, and well-being of incarcerated individuals (“Participants”). The GS Warriors Academy provide basketball coaching as a rehabilitative program to break cycles of criminal and destructive behavior, assisting the Participants in reaching their full potential and improving their physical and mental health.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to describe how sports community programs for the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated can improve physical health, mental health, and wellness.
Participants can list positive outcomes for providing outreach to formerly incarcerated individuals who have completed programs like the Twinning Project.
Participants can list potential job training and volunteer opportunities for the formerly incarcerated with parks and recreation.
