Sonya Young Jimenez is the Superintendent for the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, bringing 25 years of experience in the field of recreation. As the Department Training Coordinator, Sonya is dedicated to enhancing the professional development of her team while fostering a fun and engaging environment. A wife to her high school sweetheart, Jay for 20 years and a mother of two teenagers, Maximus (16) and Emma Jo (14), she finds joy in balancing her career with family life.
Passionate about the outdoors, Sonya founded the RAP Trail Club, which meets monthly to explore various hiking trails across Los Angeles. In addition, she runs a non-profit organization called "The Young at Heart Foundation" with her brother Mike, which supports children waiting for heart transplants. Her commitment to community wellness extends beyond her personal interests; throughout her career, she has worked at nine Recreation Centers and served as the Department Emergency Manager for seven years, navigating challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sonya thrives on making her team better while enjoying the journey together.
