Dr. Leah Joyner is an Assistant Professor at California State University, Sacramento, with expertise in urban agriculture, food sovereignty, and environmental justice. She holds a Ph.D. in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism from the University of Utah, a Master’s in Sustainable Tourism from East Carolina University, and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Sustainable Development and Technical Photography from Appalachian State University.
Dr. Joyner’s research emphasizes sustainable food systems and community resilience, particularly through the Growing Educational Pathways Through Food Sovereignty (GEPFS) project. Her background includes collaborative work with the National Park Service and various community organizations, where she has led projects on food justice, environmental equity, and agritourism. She has published on topics such as food apartheid and critical geographies of food, and regularly presents at conferences advancing dialogue on community-driven approaches to food and environmental sustainability.
